In business, health and safety is an imperative. Not only is it the right thing to do from a human perspective, it’s proven that well cared for teams are better for business. But how do you get people to see health and safety as more than just ‘a bunch of rules’?
GWA: Health & Safety
education program
Building supplies manufacturer GWA understood the importance of creating a safety-first culture. For GWA the safety of their people was far more than just a bunch of rules, for them it was deeply personal.
Getting their teams to ‘live’ a safety culture started with everyone feeling accountable to one another. This can’t be done through rules and logic, it demands an emotional connection built on empathy. One of the best ways to build empathy is through storytelling and in talking to the GWA team it was clear these powerful stories existed in the business, they just hadn’t been told. We created a series of films with the GWA team sharing these stories - deeply personal and speaking from the heart. This incredibly open and human storytelling was the first step in building empathy and getting the emotional commitment of the team in building a ‘safety first’ culture together, which led to real and sustainable long-term change.
‘IT’s personal’ - PROGRAM INTRODUCTION
For the GWA CEO, this was so much more than the rollout of a corporate health and safety program - for Tim, it was deeply personal.
Scott’s Story
“She’ll be right mate.” You hear all the time in Australian workplaces. And it’s this complacency, that leads to accidents. This is a story that reminds us all that we deserve to return home safely to our loved ones.
